چکیده

Thyagarajan, T. R. (Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, N. H.), S. F. Conti, and H. B. Naylor. Electron microscopy of Rhodotorula glutinis. J. Bacteriol. 83:381-394. 1962.-The structure and manner of nuclear division in Rhodotorula glutinis was studied by electron microscopy of ultrathin sections. Parallel studies with the light microscope, employing conventional staining techniques and phase-contrast microscope observations on nuclei in living cells, were carried out. The nucleus is spherical to oval and is bounded by a nuclear membrane. Intranuclear structures, identified as nucleoli, and electron-transparent areas were observed. The nuclear membrane persists throughout the various stages of cell division. Observations of the nucleus with the electron microscope revealed that nuclear division occurs by a process of elongation and constriction similar to that seen in both living and stained cells. The fine structure of mitochondria and other components of the yeast cell and their behavior during cell division are described. The absence of vacuoles in actively dividing cells of Rhodotorula glutinis lends further support to the view that the vacuole is not an integral part of the nucleus. The results with the electron microscope generally support and considerably extend those obtained with living and stained cells.

Carotenoid biosynthesis in Rhodotorula glutinis.

It was determined that lycopene could be cyclized directly by Rhodotorula glutinis. It was also shown the the temperature effect (i.e., increased beta-carotene synthesis in response to lower incubation temperatures) in R. glutinis was controlled by changes in enzyme concentration.

Hybrid Magnetic Cross-Linked Enzyme Aggregates of Phenylalanine Ammonia Lyase from Rhodotorula glutinis

Novel hybrid magnetic cross-linked enzyme aggregates of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (HM-PAL-CLEAs) were developed by co-aggregation of enzyme aggregates with magnetite nanoparticles and subsequent crosslinking with glutaraldehyde. The HM-PAL-CLEAs can be easily separated from the reaction mixture by using an external magnetic field. Analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal la...

Electron Micrography of Bud Formation in Metschnikowia krissii.

The fine structure of bud formation of Metschnikowia krissii was studied by means of ultramicrotomy and transmission electron microscopy. Bud protrusion and development were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Bud formation in this yeast takes place by an extension of a small localized area of the existing parent wall. The parent cell and its bud are initially separated by the plasmalemma...

Utilization of date syrup as a substrate for carotenoid production by Rhodotorula glutinis

The potential use of date syrup, for the production of carotenoids by Rhodotorula glutinisin batch fermentation process, was investigated during 7 days. The results revealed that carbon (glucose or date syrup) and nitrogen sources [yeast extract, (NH4)2SO4 and NH4NO3] had a significant influence on biomass and carotenoid production. Maximum yield of total carotenoid production (7.94 mg/L) with ...

Genome Sequence of the Oleaginous Yeast Rhodotorula glutinis ATCC 204091

Rhodotorula glutinis ATCC 204091 is an oleaginous oxidative red yeast that can accumulate lipids to >50% of its biomass when grown with appropriate carbon and nitrogen ratios. It produces a red pigment consisting of useful antioxidants, such as carotenoids, torulene, and torularhodin, when cultivated under carbon-deficient conditions.
